Update from the Board - 11/1/12

Dear Friends of SEPRA:

Unfortunately, we have had to make the very hard decision to indefinitely stop taking in any new Pugs and Pug mixes in need of rescue as of 11/1/2012. We are taking this action to accomplish two goals:

  • Focus on getting the current foster dogs adopted to their forever homes
  • Reduce our organizational debt. Many of our older or special need dogs have been in foster care for an extended amount of time and they deserve their own forever home, we will try our hardest to make that happen.
One of the things that goes along with our older and sicker Pugs are significant vet costs. We usually depend on PugFest to help us “dig out of our hole”, but this year attendance was down nearly 50%. Consequently, our ability to "get to zero” with our debt has not happened. With good conscience, we cannot put the organization further into debt because it would jeopardize our ability to continue to do our work.

We sincerely appreciate your continued support of our organization and we will get through this. We have before and we have come back even stronger. Quite honestly, we have fared better than most rescues in the recent years because of our wonderful foster homes, adoption coordinators and volunteers. If any of you would like to organize a fundraising project on behalf of SEPRA, we would welcome the assistance.
