Completing the adoption application is a prerequisite to adopting a pug through Southeast Pug Rescue & Adoption, Inc. The information you provide helps our coordinators match you and your family with just the right dog. Answer the form as completely as you can and remember that your name and e-mail address are required. The Adoption Process
The following outlines the adoption process for Southeast Pug Rescue and Adoption, Inc. Please understand that the process is intended to provide the best outcome for both the rescued dog and the new adoptive home. Thank you in advance for understanding. Who will have access to your information?
Your responses will only be used in rescue-related activities but may be posted to a private Web site and may be read by a network of SEPRA rescue workers and coordinators. Your information may also be transmitted via e-mail to the same. If you are serious about adopting a rescue and you express interest in a particular dog, expect interviews, reference checks and possibly a home-visit from a SEPRA coordinator before the adoption is finalized. We thank you for your interest in pug rescue, however please note that SEPRA concentrates its placements in the immediate southeast area of the United States. We do have a few foster homes in the Oklahoma/Louisiana area and adopt those pugs to qualified homes in those areas as well. Mixing pugs with large dogs
We, in pug rescue, have learned the very hard way over the years about mixing pugs with large dogs. The only way we will adopt a pug into a home with a large dog is if we know the pug has lived with large dogs before coming into rescue, and has done fine with them. Applicants with large dogs are placed on a separate waiting list and are notified in the event that we have an appropriate match for them. That waiting list is quite extensive. We have nothing against big dogs, and realize that many of them are docile, wonderful pets. We believe strongly in keeping the size of your pets equal, as in one split second, a pug can be injured or killed, and we have seen this many times, even in the best of homes. Many well intentioned pet owners have had large dogs that they would bet their last dime that nothing would ever happen. Many well intentioned pet owners are also living today with a terrible guilt and shock over losing a small dog to one snap. Pugs are very vulnerable dogs in that the way their jaw and teeth are positioned, they are no match in any kind of dog fight. Pugs' snorting and snuffling is many times mistaken for growling and this prompts a bigger dog to attack. Please understand our need for this rule. We cannot take the chance with these pugs that are entrusted to our care. They have been through enough already and we have to take every precaution necessary in their placements. So many of the pugs we get have already been attacked by larger dogs and are paying the price. Spaying/Neutering Policy
It is SEPRA policy to not adopt our rescues into homes with unaltered pets. While spaying and neutering is a personal choice, it is in the best health interest of a pet to be spayed or neutered. It cuts down on chances of testicular cancer in males - not to mention the marking and mounting issues when a new pet is brought in - as well as mammary tumors and cancer in females. If you are unclear about the benefits, please speak with your vet about the issue. If your pet is not spayed or neutered and you are unwilling to have it done, please do not continue the application process unless that pet is elderly or an active show dog. The spay/neuter status of all current pets in any adoptive home is verified through the vet reference and no adoption is approved until this is done. Adoption Disclaimer - Required Reading Before ProceedingNeither Southeast Pug Rescue & Adoption, Inc. (SEPRA), nor its volunteers, coordinators, representatives, Internet Service Provider and its officers, employees, contractors and representatives; and any other person, firm or corporation involved with the efforts or business of this corporation, shall be held liable or responsible for any claims or causes of action incurred as a result of the provision or restriction of information, services, contacts, adoptions, fostering, veterinary care or by the actions of any and all dogs transferred or referenced herein. Moreover, there is absolutely no guarantee made or implied that any person requesting to adopt a dog being fostered through SEPRA, or posted on SEPRA's Website, will be allowed to adopt a SEPRA dog. Rather, all adoption applications are subject to acceptance based on a review process that may require collecting information from references and visiting the applicant's home. All decisions on placing dogs in adoptive and foster homes are based solely on the judgment of the volunteers and coordinators of SEPRA and adoption applications submitted through this form are often denied for various reasons. SEPRA reserves the right to make all decisions regarding placement or final disposition of any rescued dog in its care whether in, or being placed in, a foster or adoptive home or other facility. We thank you for your interest in pug rescue, however please note that SEPRA concentrates its placements in the immediate southeast area of the United States. We do have a few foster homes in the Oklahoma/Louisiana/St. Louis area and adopt those pugs to qualified homes in those areas as well. If you are not in the immediate southeast area, please visit our links page and find a local pug rescue group closer to your home. Please be prepared to correspond with the adoption coordinator via email. Due to restrictions on application volume, time, and the general nature of rescue, almost all of our correspondences are done by email. Please check your email regularly to see if you have been contacted. By pressing the "Submit" button on the application, you attest that you have read the above disclaimer and agree to the terms therein. Please note that adoption applications will only be accepted from persons 21 years old or older. Finally, in rescue, we deal with the unknown and usually we do not have full medical histories on our rescues. SEPRA discloses any and all information known about its rescues prior to every adoption. In addition, all rescues are spayed or neutered, current on shots and heartworm negative prior to placement. They are all also treated for all known medical conditions while in foster care. Medical conditions and behavioral issues may arise after a placement and because there is no way to predict these issues, SEPRA will not be held responsible for any costs incurred after the adoption. By clicking the link below and completing an application, you acknowledge that you understand all of the above terms and conditions on this page.
