Philly Pug & Short Nose Rescue, Inc. is a no-kill, 100% volunteer organization dedicated to the rescue of Pug dogs. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization based in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. PPSNR maintains a kennel license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is also registered with the Pennsylvania Corporation and Charitable Organization.
Philly Pug & Short Nose Rescue, Inc. was organized because the founders found it difficult to adopt a pug in the Delaware Valley. PPSNR adopts and rescues in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware & Maryland. We welcome adoption applicants outside of this area as well.
Our mission is to rescue from owners who have chosen to surrender their dog to a rescue. PPSNR will also rescue dogs from shelters. While we primarily take in Pugs, we will also accept Shih Tzus, Boston Terriers and English Bulldogs.
All of our rescued dogs are vetted, brought up to date on vaccinations and spay or neutered as needed. We will not adopt out an unaltered dog, unless for medical reasons the dog cannot be altered. Our ultimate goal is to place them into a good, loving “furever” home. Like many rescues, we rescue for the life of the dog. This means that if an adoption should not work out for any reason, the dog can come back into our rescue at any time.
Short Nose Dogs are often misunderstood. These small dogs have a big personality. They snort, snore, play, but they do not make good outside pets or jogging partners. Pugs cannot handle extreme weather conditions, hot or cold. Quite often the grunts and snorts are misunderstood signs of aggression with medium and large breed dogs. Therefore, we adopt to families with medium and large breed dogs on a case by case basis.
It is our part of our mission to help educate people so they understand what makes these members of the brachycephalic breeds so special.
The overriding mandate of Philly Pug & Short Nose Rescue is to “do what is best for the dogs in our care.”
